Going With the Flow
Julia Hagen was born in Austria with music in her blood. Her parents are both professional string players, so it was second nature for her to pick up a bow and start playing the cello. From the very beginning, her performances have been defined by her instinctive approach to music, fully immersing herself in each work as she plays. Accordingly, the brilliant First Cello Concerto by Camille Saint-Saëns, with its elegantly flowing melodic phrases, is the perfect showpiece for this young star from Salzburg. Providing the perfect accompaniment is the Bruckner Orchester Linz, conducted by Markus Poschner, who is always happy to return to Bremen, where he spent some time as General Music Director. The orchestra has its chance to shine after the interval with a performance of Bruckner’s magnificent Fourth Symphony. It is hardly surprising that this work is known as the “Romantic” Symphony.
